Little Antioch: “Sacrificial Sending”

As we turn towards the next generation of ministry for Christ Memorial and the future of Loved+Sent, we are taking a look at the ancient city of Antioch and asking the questions: What does the first century church in Antioch have to say to us today? In that same spirit, could we be a Little Antioch?

Today we consider the value of Sacrifice. As God’s people, we will sacrifice. We will sacrificially send for the sake of the Gospel. But we won’t be oblivious to the cost. The good news? As we count the cost of sending, we get a much more beautiful picture of a God who gives freely to us.

“The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.” Acts 11:22.
“And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers living in Judea. And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.” Acts 11:28-30
